How many times have you walked in a park and noticed the elegance and the beauty of these trees with their beautiful and romantic autumn colors? The Maples trees belongs to the Aceraceae family, as many as 200 species exist and come from Asian countries such as China or Japan but also Europe. Maple is a plant that can reach spectacular heights, up to 30 meters or more. In autumn the maples stand out for their beauty and elegance, with their leaves that vary from yellow, to brown, to fire red, creating a scenery that look like a painting. Theophrastus writes that the Maple was chosen for the most elegant furniture and Ovid (43 a.C.- 17 AD) reminds us that the throne of Tarquinio Prisco (616-579 a.C.,) fifth king of Rome was made in maple wood.

The Cedars are mountain trees native from the Himalayas. In the wild they are also found in the mountains around the Mediterranean, in the Po valley and in the pre-Alps of Northern Italy.
The cedars are evergreen trees of majestic size, up to 60 m tall, with a wood of aromatic resin, a massive and mighty trunk and wide and extended branches. It is believed that the cedar of Lebanon was used for the construction of the Temple of King Solomon in Jerusalem. In traditional archery, Cedar wood is used for the construction of arrows. At the time of the Phoenicians they were used to build large boats. Thanks to the presence of Cedar, the Phoenicians have become great traders and navigators.

OAK

The genus Quercus includes many species of spontaneous trees in Italy, but they are widespread throughout the temperate zone of the hemisphere. Some evergreens, other deciduous trees, are pollinated by the wind and produce acorns, their typical fruits. Holm Oaks, Cork Oaks, English Oaks, are just a few species of Oaks that in the past formed vast forests. The Romans protected the Oaks, they considered them a public good from which everyone could derive wood and acorns. They considered their woods sacred and built with them sources, sepulchres and temples. Oaks are an important habitat for many animal and plant species; they generate and maintain endemic biodiversity and are able to accumulate large amounts of carbon.

Native to Europe and the Caucasus it is a widespread species in all temperate areas. The stems, curved towards the ground, give the shrub its characteristic “shower” appearance. The Elderberry is very common along the country hedges, in the woods as well as on the outskirts of the cities, where it represents a relic of spontaneous vegetation. Since prehistoric times, there have been many uses of the various parts of the plant from which are obtained jams, syrups, herbal teas, medicines, modeling material, tools and games. The popular belief advised to plant the Elderberry to wish fertility and to protect from evil spirits. In the Christian tradition it was used in funerals as a viaticum for the journey to the afterlife; in the pagan tradition, it is a protected tree.

OLIVE

Both Eastern and European peoples have always considered this plant a symbol of peace. The ancient Greeks considered the Olive tree a sacred plant and used it to make crowns with which they encircled the athletes who won the Olympics. At that time the plant was not yet the cultivated olive tree but its wild ancestor the Oleastro. For the Romans it was a distinguished symbol for illustrious men. For the Jews, the Olive tree was a symbol of justice and wisdom. The bible says that a dove brought an olive branch to Noah to announce to him that the earth and the sky had reconciled after the universal flood. From that moment the Olive tree assumed a double meaning: it became the symbol of regeneration, but also the symbol of peace because it attested the reconciliation of nature with men.
